mammoth We Love A Good Paranormal Hoax!!

A video hit the net yesterday of what is believed to be a ‘wooly mammoth’ wading through a river in Siberia. The mammoth is supposed to have died out 4,000 years ago, but rumours that some live on in the Siberian wilderness have been circulating for some time.

This video has divided opinion on the subject, many say it is too blurry and short to be definitive evidence, others say it could be a bear with a large fish in its mouth, or an escapee elephant.

Others argue that it proves that some mammoths did not die out and live on in largely uninhabited, unexplored areas of Siberia- or maybe they did die, but were frozen in ice, and then were thawed out and brought back to life by the team searching for Captain America in a highly irrelevant side-project.

Paranormal writer Michael Cohen said: “Rumours of a handful of mammoths still kicking around in the vast wilderness of Siberia have been circulating for decades and occasionally sightings by locals have occurred. Siberia is an enormous territory and much of it remains completely unexplored and untouched by humans. ”

I don’t know what to believe, most of us, the average web-trawler looking for something entertaining to watch during our lunch breaks at work – will watch a video like this, muse over it for a few moment, perhaps send it on to our friends, before we click onto the next video or get back to work!

The internet is awash with thousands of videos, pictures, recordings, images pertaining to prove that mythical or allegedly extinct creatures do in fact exist on the face of our crazy earth. Be it Alien landings, the Loch Ness Monster, the Yeti, Fairies, big cats in Britain – you name it, somewhere on the web will be someone claiming to have irrefutable proof of its existence.

Can I just say for the record that I am not trying to prove or disprove any of this alleged evidence, and I am certainly not claiming that this current video is a hoax! I’m not qualified to make that sort of evaluation and I’m sure the majority of you reading this aren’t either!

All I am saying is that of the multitude of clips and images out there, many of them are hoaxes – and I often wonder what possesses people to create them. Is it the quest for fame? The desire to see their work splattered all over the internet like a bucket of spilt paint? Is it because they really believe – maybe they’ve actually had tea and a jam sandwich with said mythical creature but didn’t have a camera on them that day – and had to use other, less authentic means to show the rest of the world what they already know to be true? Or maybe it’s because they believe themselves to be waaaaay smarter than the rest of us net-surfers and want to see how many of us simple folk they can trick into believing their crap?

Mr Cohen, 41, added: “It is highly possible that a number of species, extinct elsewhere, survive in the area. If surviving woolly mammoths were found in Siberia, it could run against Russia’s plans to further develop and exploit the area’s considerable resources. It would be potentially one of the greatest discoveries ever.”

Yet this magnitude of hoaxes doesn’t seem to end our fascination with videos of this nature! Some of us will watch and sneer in distrust, others will see stuff like this and feel their hearts lifting with the belief that their favourite mythical creature does in fact exist! Only one thing is for certain with a video of this nature – it’s gonna get seen by a hell of a lot of people!!!!
