A middle school in Pennsylvania have banned the popular woolly boot from their classrooms. Apparently this is not because of their appearance, nor any possible foot health issues that can be caused by them, but because certain pupils were using the space in them to smuggle prohibited items in to the school!

The item hot on the list of things to hide in that space between the calf and the boot lining is the mobile phone. Students at the school in Pottstown are allowed to bring them to school, but they must be switched off and kept in lockers between 7.55am and 2.30pm.

You can probably imagine why many teenagers would be thinking up imaginative ways to try and keep their precious telecommunications devices upon their person!

So the school board have now stated that the pupils may wear their fluffy favourites to and from school, but must change into a closer-fitting style of footwear for the course of the school day.

Who knows if this ingenious scheme will have the desired effect? Theoretically it could work, although I can pretty much bet my bottom dollar on the fact that those school kids will have thought of a new elaborate scheme to sneak their cells into class before their parents having even finished reading the letter about the policy change!
