Former Girls Aloud starlet Cheryl Cole, 28, is rumoured to close to signing a deal to perform her new single on the new BBC talent show The Voice!, which is reported to have cost the BBC £22million to set up.
BBC’s The Voice will be battling out for ratings against Simon Cowell’s Britain’s Got Talent on ITV. The two shows will be on at the same time on a Saturday Night!
Unlike on The X Factor or Britain’s Got Talent, judges are unable to see the acts and must rate them solely on their vocal skills.
Cole’s manager Will.i.am is a confirmed mentor on the show, and was said to be instrumental in helping to convince Cheryl to choose The Voice as a platform to air her new single, which is due to be released at the same time the show starts later in the spring of this year.
If The Voice does secure Cheryl’s single debut, it would be likely to give them a massive ratings boost in the fight against Britain’s Got Talent. It would probably help her get one up on Simon Cowell too, after she was sacked from his show the US X-Factor last year!!
The Voice will be hosted by Holly Willoughby and Reggie Yates, and the other mentors include Welsh legend Tom Jones, Script frontman Danny O’Donoghue, and Brit Award nominee Jessie J. The winner of the talent show will get a record deal with music giant Universal.
Sources close to the show say viewers can expect fireworks between Will and Jessie J when the show starts in March.
A source said: “There is an awful lot of pressure, given the money spent on the format, for the ratings to be good. But at the moment all signs are that it will be cash well spent.”
