According to screenwriter Chris Coghill the recently reunited and much loved Stone Roses have recorded 3 or 4 new tracks while working with him on his upcoming film Spike Island.

Coghill, who is best known for playing the villainous Tony King in Eastenders, told BBC News that the Manchester band have been busy in the studio recording the tracks for the movie, which Coghill says is his ‘love letter to the Stone Roses’.

Spike Island traces the story of a group of teens who try desperately to slip into the festival which was known as the ‘baggy Woodstock’, which took place in 1990 and draws on things that Coghill himself experienced.

Coghill claims to be working closely with Mani, who he is friends with and has collaborated with Ian Brown on the project. He told BBC News that when he contacted the Stone Roses about the idea for Spike Island, which will feature numerous Stone Roses songs on the soundtrack, they said; ‘You have our support, you have our blessing, whatever you need.’”

The Stone Roses, who disbanded in 1994 much to their ardent fans disappointment, announced a comeback tour in October 2011. Tickets to their concerts sold old minutes after going on sale and they have also announced that they plan to record a third album in the very near future.
