Wannabe Superhero Hangs Up Cape & Retires From Crime Fighting After Being Beaten Up By Thugs

Roger Hayhurst Wannabe Superhero Hangs Up Cape & Retires From Crime Fighting After Being Beaten Up By Thugs
In a real life story that is a little similar to blockbuster movie Kickass, a wannabe superhero, who had roamed the streets of Salford fighting crime has decided to retire. Roger Hayhurst, 20, aka ‘Knight Warrior’ had been fighting crime in rougher areas of Salford for the last 2 years, but made the decision to hang up his cape after some yobs recognized him outside of his outfit and decided to beat him up. The gang of thugs set on Hayhurst while he was out for a walk with his fiancé, leaving him with a badly swollen face.

Hayhurst had focused on breaking up street fights and tackling anti-social behavior and roamed the streets in a £200 custom made blue and black lycra costume. His girlfriend, Rebecca Wall aka ‘Knight Maiden’ has also decided to hang up the cape she wore in support of Hayhurst’s honorable exploits. Continue Reading

Spiderman Allegedly Punches Mom In Times Square After Photograph Tip Refusal!

spidey Spiderman Allegedly Punches Mom In Times Square After Photograph Tip Refusal!

Superheroes are usually such gracious, admirable types, who never want or expect anything from the people who they keep safe and protect but recognition and a little bit of respect. However this does not apply to people dressed in superhero costumes, as one mom quickly discovered after she was punched by one guy masquerading as our honorable webbed warrior when she refused to tip him for taking a photograph with her children!

The incident occurred in Times Square, New York, after the 44-year-old woman’s two children posed for a picture with “Spiderman” and he became angered and hit her when she refused to tip him for his services. Continue Reading

Skottie Young Variant 1 Adorable Art: Baby Marvel Superheroes By Skottie Young

It’s hard to imagine your favorite baddie-bashing, invincible superheroes as babies, so to help you conjure up those images, artist Skottie Young has created these incredibly adorable variant covers for Marvel!

My favorite was the defiant Captain America stubbornly denying his mom’s request to tidy his bedroom, despite the fact that she is threatening to stop him playing with the Little Avengers Club if he continually refuses to do so!

There is also an insight into what childhood was like for the Fantastic Four, Deadpool and The Punisher!

Makes you glad that you didn’t have to babysit for any of them, as you can imagine, they appear to be quite a handful! Continue Reading

Being A Superhero Is Harder Than You Think

The last few years have seen comic book fanatics treated to an influx of some really epic superhero movies, you’ve had the Avengers, Captain America, The Dark Knight trilogy, Thor, Iron Man, the X-Men quadrilogy and Origins tales, the Spiderman lot (whichever ones you prefer) and a couple of versions of the Hulk too.

So it’s no wonder that the youth of today want nothing more than to prove that they have what it takes to be a superhero, like the bolshy teen captured in this video. Sporting a Captain America Shield (that he clearly hasn’t learnt to use properly yet), Youtuber CaptainArtillery introduces himself to his viewers as ‘Captain Awesome’ (I see what he did there) and tells us he is about to dodge some artillery shells.

Defo one for the ‘don’t try this at home’ selection – but if you enjoyed watching Captain Awesome’s awesome Fail, then you can find more of his adventures on YouTube.

Sad Superheroes: Reflecting America’s Current Crisis

Sad Superheroes: Reflecting America’s Current Crisis

There is something supremely disturbing about Argentinean-born photographer Nicolas Silberfaden’s ‘Impersonators’ project where superhero character and celebrity impersonators were asked to portray a superhero experiencing feelings of genuine sadness.

Silberfaden got impersonators from Los Angeles, California together and asked them to “manifest feelings of genuine sadness” as a means of reflection on the “current economic, social and cultural crisis” currently being experienced in modern day America.

Silberfaden said that the portraits are “somber, striking visual image that contradicts the iconic nature of strength and moral righteousness typical in American superhero and celebrity imagery.”

There is something very profound and insightful about these projects, as in times of crisis, society does tend to resort to the wonderful escapism provided by superhero stories as a means of coping. Seeing our almighty heroes overwhelmed in these feelings of sadness and sorrow in certainly shocking and more than a little disconcerting. I think I’m going to have to go and have a little cry now…and then watch the Avengers to make myself feel better! Continue Reading

Superheroes Reimagined as Manatees

supermanatee by jharris Superheroes Reimagined as Manatees

Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Supermanatee!

Joel Micah Harris (jharris on Deviantart) has gone and created some amazing pieces of fan art, which portray superheroes as manatees. It’s a little bizarre and utterly random, but you can’t deny that his pictures aren’t amazingly wonderful (not to mention hilarious). Manatees get a lot of grief for being not overly intelligent, but that doesn’t mean they don’t look great when dressed up as Hawkeye or Wonder Woman.

Below are seven amazing pieces of fan art of manatee superheroes, though there are many more that can be found at Joel’s deviantart. You can also go onto Joel’s Red Bubble account if you’d like to own prints, T-shirts, or stickers of his artwork.Continue Reading
