Artist Gives Disney’s Paperman a Couple of Fandom Crossovers

paperman3

People have really taken a shine to Paperman, the six minute black and white 3D hand drawn/computer animated short that first appeared in 2012 before Wreck-It Ralph. This short won the Academy Award for Bets Animated Short Film at the 2013 Oscars, marking Disney’s first win for an animated short film since It’s Tough to be a Bird back in 1969.

Going off of Paperman‘s popularity, Eddie Snow has started his own Paper Series artwork on his Deviantart account. The series, so far, contains four different images. Each one portrays Meg, the female lead in Paperman, striking the same pose with the same background behind her. How each image differs is who she’s with. We see Meg standing next to a variety of different characters: a cocktail holding-iron suit clad Tony Stark, a charming Captain Kirk in the foreground and a logical Spock behind, the ever suave Don Drapper, and an intrigued Brock Samson. The combination of this Disney short with Iron Man, Star Trek, Mad Men, and Venture Bros is perfect, and it’s such a treat to see each of these well known characters from different fandoms drawn in the Paperman style.Continue Reading

Terminally Ill Star Trek Fan Who Saw Into Darkness Passes Away

star-trek-into-darkness-early-watch

A few weeks ago Redditor Grady Hendrix posted a story about his terminally ill friend Daniel Craft, whose dying wish was to see the new Star Trek Into Darkness movie (or at least the 9-minute preview) before he passed away. Craft was 38-years old when he was diagnosed with Leukemia, over the next few years his condition got progressively worse and doctors had given him just a few months to live.

Cue the wonderful powers of the internet to work their magic, a few media outlets reported on the story and director J.J Abrams heard about the man’s dying wish.

To his credit, Abrams arranged a screening of a rough cut of the movie for Craft and his wife, which was no doubt not an easy feat because we all know what Hollywood’s money-machine is like about their products. Continue Reading

Their bizarre ceremony was the Britain’s first Klingon wedding, celebrant Peter Wyllie conducted the event and even included some Klingon phrases! Despite having the guttural language written down for him phonetically, after the ceremony Wyllie admitted to being worried about his pronunciation!

The couple met 4 years ago at the retirement home where they both work, they said they wanted to have a ceremony like this after watching the traditional Klingon wedding in an episode of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” where Worf marries science officer Jadzia Dax.Continue Reading

The Science of Star Trek

So many of us that grew up watching Star Trek have seen technological advances mean that a lot of the stuff presented in this fantastical world of the future have actually become a reality.
