Check out this fantastically awesome giant Skeletor replica based on the 1980s Masters of the Universe action figure! As spawn of the 80s, when I was a youngling Skeletor was the stuff of nightmares, if it wasn’t for the courageous He-Man keeping the nefarious boney dude in check, I don’t think I ever would’ve got any shuteye.
For that reason, I doubt I’d want a huge-ass replica of Skeletor floating about in my living room threatening to bring back all my childhood traumas (I haven’t really grown up all that much, as you can probably tell), but I still think this replica created by DDG Colecciones is incredibly cool!

If you like art that gives you the heebie-jeebies and could turn even a cast-iron stomach in a flash, then you’ll like the “Handheld” collection of sculptures created by Edinburgh-based artist Jessica Harrison.
This miniature collection of bizarre furniture that would never make it into an IKEA store appears to be made out of human skin, flesh and hair and they are more than a little bit disturbing. It is a universally known fact that pretty much everyone except traffic wardens hates traffic wardens. So this story will surely bring a smile to all the haters’ faces as it allows them to laugh and point at a few members of the much maligned profession.
Traffic wardens in Germany made a little bit of a blunder when they planted a parking ticket on the icy windshield of a Volkswagen Beetle. Unlike every other poor unfortunate soul, the owner (or creator) of this vehicle will easily be able to avoid paying up – because the car is made out of SNOW!! Check out this incredibly awesome sand sculpture of Minas Tirith created by Deviant Artist BuckarooJoe. The image is shot in such a way to give the impression that the sculpture is bigger than it actually is, however it’s pretty large anyway – measuring some 10 feet in height and 12 feet in width. Obviously it’s nowhere near the size of the one in LOTR, but for what is essentially a sand castle, it’s pretty damn impressive. Continue Reading
This collection of enthralling animal sculptures was created by British artist Barbara Franc using wire, metal and other recycled scrap. Franc says that she has always been “fascinated by the shapes and sculptural forms of animals” and that they are a limitless source of inspiration for her art. She cites her influences as 19th century animal engravings and our relationship with and dependence on the domesticated animal. She is also intrigued by the movements and skeletal structures of racing animals like horses and dogs.
Franc says she aims to capture the animals “movement and presence” in her work and tries to create sculptures that “reflect the diversity of movement and form.”Continue Reading
These incredible sculptures were created by Polish artist Marta Klonowska and many of them are inspired by the animals found in the baroque paintings created by renowned artists such as Peter Paul Rubens or Francisco de Goya. When Klonowska’s sculptures are exhibited, they are often displayed next to the paintings from which they were inspired, creating an interesting parallel between the two very different art mediums.
Klonowska uses broken shards of colored glass to create the creatures, using sticking to life-like proportions and size. Her most recent exhibition was at the European Glass Context 2012 and you can see more of her intricate, detailed sculptures on the lorch + seidel contemporary website. Continue Reading
These awesome wearable sculptures were created by artist Jennifer Crupi as part of a project that seeks to explore non-verbal communication between people. The jewelry-like sculptures are interactive because they cause the wearer to create a gestural expression and Crupi hopes that they make the wearer aware of what posture and gesture can reveal.
It’s not just jewelry-like sculptures though, Crupi has also created gestural furniture that guides our body language, like this “Empathy Table”. The table is constructed for two people to sit at either end, it has specific indentations that when rested upon, cause the two people to consider each other thoughtfully. Continue Reading
