The Nominees for the world’s leading film awards, the Oscars, are in! 3 British actors are in with a chance of winning a coveted Oscar, they are: Gary Oldman – Best Actor – playing George Smiley in ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Kenneth Branagh – Best Supporting Actor – for his portrayal of Sir Lawrence Olivier in ‘My Week With Marilyn’ and Janet McTeer – Best Supporting Actress – playing Hubert Page, in the gender-bending drama Albert Nobbs!
Martin Scorcese’s 3D Film ‘Hugo’, about a boy who lives alone in a Paris railway station and an enigmatic toy-shop owner, got the most nominations. Hugo was nominated for 11 awards, two of those being in what are considered to be the most prestigious categories – Best Director and Best Picture.
Michel Hazanavicius’s ‘The Artist’, which was tipped to be the film to look out for at the Oscars this year, is close behind ‘Hugo’ with 10 nominations.
Steven Speilberg’s ‘War Horse’ was nominated for 6 awards, as was Bennett Miller’s ‘Moneyball’, Alexander Payne’s ‘The Descendants’, which was another film that was hotly tipped to be nominated for numerous awards, came away with just 5.
The 2012 Academy Awards will be the 84th in ceremony’s history. They will be presented by funny-man Billy Crystal on the 26th February.
