The action-packed, special effects heavy, summer blockbuster film Battleship opens in theaters tomorrow, May 18th, across the United States.
For those eager to be amongst the first to see the movie, many theaters are having midnight showings tonight.
Perhaps it’s just me, but I personally think it’s a silly concept for a movie. Transformers was one thing, that line of toys had characters, a TV show, a plot. Battleship is just a board game between two people, and the movie seems to hold no bearing against the game – other than the name and the fact that it’s from Hasbro.
What’s next? Monopoly the movie? Operation the movie? Uno the movie?
But hey, once you get past the completely arbitrary concept, perhaps you can just lose yourself in some action or explosions for a few hours.
Here’s the officially released movie synopsis:
Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancee; Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.
