lego-helms-deep-1
Check out this absolutely incredible LEGO recreating of the epic LOTR battle of Helm’s Deep that was created by Rich-K & Big J!

This masterpiece is only 90% complete and so far, its creators have already used approximately 150,000 LEGO bricks and 1700 minifigs to set the scene! Unfortunately we don’t have any information about how long it took them to create this colossal LEGO diorama, but I reckon it’s pretty safe to say that it took them a fair while. Continue Reading

Mind-Blowingly Awesome LOTR Guitar Created Using Sharpie Markers!

lotr-guitar-1
Check out this fantastically awesome Lord of the Rings guitar created by Vivian Xiao aka Deviant Artist vivsters using Sharpie permanent markers!!

We’ve always known that Sharpie markers have a multitude of users and thought them to be an epically useful creation, but even so, it is still hard to fathom that the fine, intricate artwork displayed on this guitar was just done just with Sharpies!

Another shocking fact is that the artist who created this Tolkien-inspired masterpiece is just 16-years-old!! That girl has some seriously incredible talent!! Continue Reading

Uruk-Hai Capture Hobbits For Awesome Spanish Carnival LOTR Cosplay!

lord-of-the-rings-cosplay-kids

This brilliant picture was posted by Redditor The_Neon_Knight under the tagline “It’s Carnival in Spain and all the schools have family costume parties… This is too cute not to share.”

Featuring some Uruk-Hai cosplaying adults with some adorably cute hobbit children all caged up and looking like they are about to become party snacks! It was not long before the picture started getting attention and as you would expect – a catalogue of LOTR quotes in the comments, the most popular of which was “looks like meat’s back on the menu boys”!

Despite the fact that the two young boys captors look pretty terrifying, they don’t appear to be afraid – flashing beaming grins at the photographer. I love the fake fur attached to their footwear to make it seems like they’ve got the authentic hobbit furry feets!
I suppose putting your kids in a cage is one way to keep track of them during a carnival!

LOTR Author’s Son Christopher Tolkien Gives First Ever Press Interview

Christopher Tolkien

Christopher Tolkien, 87, the son of legendary British author J.R.R. Tolkien and the official executor of his estate does not normally give press interviews. In fact, in the 40 years since his father’s death he has given but one interview to French publication Le Monde that was published in July of 2012.

Now, to coincide with the cinema release of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” – Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema’s big screen adaptation of Tolkien’s The Hobbit novel – WorldCrunch has released a transcript of that interview translated into English. Continue Reading

How Many Fat Little Fishies Would Gollum Need To Survive

gollum

If you like random hypothetical questions and LOTR then Rhett Allain’s Dot Physics article which analyzes how many fishes our slimy friend Gollum would need to survive, will be right up your street.

Allain is a bit of an expert when it comes to Gollum-related physics – having previously approached the subject of the different ways it might be possible for the creepy cave-dweller to see in the dark.

If I was asked the question about how many fish Gollum needs, I’d be inclined to answer with the response “as many as he can get his sneaky little paws on”. Me and physics don’t really get on so great, in fact when I get too close to it, I tend to become a little like the sleepy Stony Brook University student we wrote about yesterday – so I’m not even going to pretend I understand how Allain got to his answer. Gold-Plated Tungsten LOTRs One Ring

gold_plated_tungsten_carbide_one_ring

LOTR fans who want accessorize accordingly when they go to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in the movie theatres might want to consider purchasing this beautiful gold-plated tungsten carbide One Ring on the ThinkGeek website.

It would also make a perfect Christmas gift for LOTR-loving family members or friends who want to rule them all! Unfortunately however, it is temporarily out of stock – so unless you can wrangle Shadowfax in to deliver it to you rather hastily it might not make it in time for Christmas giving!

Modeled closely on the infamous ring that appeared in Peter Jackson’s trilogy, the ring is made from hypoallergenic tungsten carbide and costs $99. It features the sinister elvish inscription “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.”Continue Reading

Screen Junkies Do Honest Trailer For LOTR

With Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey finally out in our movie theaters – there will be quite a few of you preparing for its release by re-watching all three LOTRs movies. With that in mind, Screen Junkies have watched the extended versions and put together an honest trailer.

Those of you who loved the Peter Jackson “nerdgasm” that is the LOTR trilogy might not enjoy this Screen Junkies trailer as much as some of their other candid takes on Hollywood Blockbusters. However, I think that it is still possible to love the movies AND enjoy this parody trailer because they do make some pretty hilarious points!

It is, as the trailer points out, a trilogy of movies that does feature rather a lot of walking, roaming, trekking and more walking. It is also “bursting with so much manly compassion, you’ll think you’re watching Brokeback Mount Doom.” Continue Reading

Geek Sports: Woman Walks Marathon Whilst Watching LOTR’s Marathon

This might be the geekiest marathon I have ever heard of, Redditor preservetheverve carried out a 26.2 mile marathon whilst watching all 3 of Peter Jackson’s LOTR movies back-to-back.

She carried out the feat on a treadmill that we presume was located somewhere in her home, after all you wouldn’t want to watch LOTR’s on portable hand-held device while you wandered aimlessly around your local park trying not to tread in dog poop! When comedian Mark Malkoff carried out his Netflix challenge (a different kind of movie marathon), he had to get his wife to take him out for walks and help steer him in the right direction! Geek Love: Gorgeous LOTR’s Minas Tritith Wedding Cakes

I’ve seen some awesomely geeky wedding cakes writing for this site, but I think this Minas Tirith wedding cake by Audrey Konyha Vigh might just be the best!

The detail in the piece is just amazing – I can only imagine how much effort went into creating this masterpiece. Looking at it this morning, I was filled with warm fluffy LOTR images of Gandalf and Théoden crusading in to save Faramir and the boys.

Florida-based Vigh bakes all of her fantastic cakes from her home, her dream is to have a small bakery outside of her house. You can see how jam, sponge and other cakey ingredients were miraculously transformed into this beautifully detailed Minas Tirith cake over on Vigh’s Facebook page.

Warning: Looking at this cake will make you want to watch LOTR!

Awesomely Ominous Eye Of Sauron Fingernails!

Check out these custom-made ‘Eye of Sauron’ fingernail designs from Chalkboard Nails, if my fingernails weren’t horribly chewed up stumps then I would definitely sport these badboys.

That way, whenever I flipped the bird at someone it would have the added impact of the ominous eye of Sauron. Muahahahaahahaha. I think I might have to grow my fingernails just so I can do this!!

I’m even considering getting those big stupid fake ones that look like someone has attached soup spoons to your fingertips and that render the wearer unable to carry out simple day-to-day tasks like opening soda cans or putting on tights without putting huge gaping holes in them!

Sorry Frodo, sometimes a girl just has to go a little bit dark side. (But please don’t tell Gandalf)Continue Reading
