A female games developer working at Hawken developer Meteor Entertainment had a bit of a problem with a poster that her boss CEO Mark Long had hanging proudly in the office, it featured a lady mechanic not exactly wearing much in the way of clothing and it really really irritated her.

She said

It is the first thing workers and visitors see when they enter the building and the last thing they see when they leave. This little lady’s undermeats have been the open- and close- parens to my work world for the last six months.

It’s not exactly a big secret that many comic book artists draw female superheroes and characters in exaggerated and hypersexual poses. Earlier in the year there was a lot of controversy over the pose that Catwoman was positioned in on her #0 issue cover of New 52 DC Universe.

However, it is such a commonplace trait within the artform that a lot of comic book fans barely even notice when female crime fighters are consistently contorted to accentuate their assets (and I’m not talking villain-bashing skills).

In saying that however, there is a portion of the fanbase that has drawn attention to this overt and some say sexist trait within the comic book world and they have chosen the Avenger Hawkeye to try and illustrate their point!Continue Reading

Geeks, Assemble!

The Avengers opens nationwide in the United States tomorrow, May 4th, and geeks and comic book fans around the country will be lining up at movie theaters for midnight showings tonight to see the highly anticipated superhero film as soon as it debuts.

Non-geeks and those who are not fans of superhero or comic book movies may not be particularly interested or excited about seeing The Avengers on the big screen, but you may find yourself in a position where you’re attempting to persuade someone who just doesn’t understand how awesome this movie will be to go with you.

For those geeks and fans who are in a relationship with someone who doesn’t care about the movie, or even if you’re just trying to get some of your non-geek friends to come along, we have some advice that we think might help.

It might be because you don’t want to go to see the film alone, or maybe you just want to share the glorious coolness that you know will be exploding across the screen with them, or perhaps you just know they’ll love it if they just give it a shot.
