Awesome Google Doodle That Celebrates The Work Of Saul Bass

If you have clicked the play button on today’s Google Doodle, you will have been treated to a delightful sequence of images that pay homage to the work legendary graphic designer Saul Bass, who is best remembered for creating the movie credits for numerous Alfred Hitchcock classics. The animated sequence is arguably one of Google’s most elaborate to date and was created by San Francisco-based artist Matthew Cruickshank.

Cruickshank based his animation on series of Saul’s most famous works and synched it to a Dave Brubeck track because the artist was a huge fan. Continue Reading

Today’s interactive Google Doodle pays tribute to the late British author and humorist Douglas Adams who would have celebrated his 61st birthday today.

Adams’ was best known for the hugely popular series of novels ‘The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy’ which started life as a BBC radio play that aired in 1977 before becoming a series of books that were released in the late 70s and 80s. The Google Doodle is full of references to Adams’ work, which quickly amassed a cult following – you’ve got Arthur Dent’s cup of tea, Ford Prefect’s towel and Marvin the Paranoid Android also makes a cameo appearance. Adams died in 2001 aged just 49 after suffering a heart attack. Continue Reading

Today’s Google Doodle commemorates the birthday of the brilliant American illustrator Edward Gorey who passed away in 2000. He would have turned 88 today!

Gorey was a renowned author and illustrator, who was well known for his macabre and sinister drawing style. Over his long career Gorey illustrated a huge range of works, from Bram Stoker’s Dracula to Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot. He had a huge cult following and was known to have been a great source of inspiration for infamous movie director Tim Burton and successful metal band, the Nine Inch Nails as well as many many others.
In his own books, the characters (often children) would often find themselves succumbing to bizarre and unusual deaths or accidents. He was famous for his eccentricity, often wearing flamboyant or preposterous outfits. Continue Reading

Search Engine giants Google have created one of their infamous Google Doodles that emulates the iconic multicolored map for the London Underground to commemorate its 150th birthday!

The Doodle spells out the name using the different colored lines of the London Underground and even provides a key in the bottom right hand corner that tells you the names of the different lines like an actual map does. It uses the actual colors of the lines to create the letters, but obviously their routes have been twisted into the required shapes!

The infamous public transport service, referred to by many as the Tube, first opened in 1863. The virgin journey took place between Paddington and Farringdon on the Metropolitan Railway – which has since been incorporated into the Circle and District Line. Continue Reading

To celebrate Halloween the search engine giant Google has created yet another of their infamous Google Doodle’s and turned their company logo into a spooky scenario that comes to life with the click of a mouse.

Go to www.google.com and click on the eerie doors, as you do so ghouls and apparitions appear in the shape of the letters that spell out the logo!

A creepy blue one eyed-octopus forms a ‘G’, two disembodied eyes become the ‘O’s, a little white ghost forms the other ‘G’, a skeleton becomes the ‘L’ and a ominous smiley face forms the final ‘E’.
But that is not all, a raven, the harbingers of doom sits perched atop the macabre door frames – click on him and see what he does.
Lurking inside a trashcan is the infamous black cat, just waiting to cross your path and bring you all kinds of bad luck who is also animated and springs into action when you click!

This is all accompanied with a creepy soundtrack that will chill your bones and give you the Halloween heebie-jeebies!

Cheers Google, now I’m never gonna get any work done!

Google celebrates what would have been Alan Turing’s ‘the father of computer science and artificial intelligence’ 100th birthday today with an interactive “Intelligence Test Doodle”.

The Doodle is kinda like a fun version of the ‘Turing Machine.’ It took me awhile to solve the puzzle, but if you can’t do it on your own. Martin from TagSEO has made a video taking you through the six steps to solve it.
