
A series of photos depicting an entire classroom of students receiving IV drips while studying for the “Gao Kao” National College Entrance Exam has gone viral after being uploaded on Sina Weibo by a senior high school student in Xiaogan, China who goes by the username CHImushroom.
The pictures show a classroom full of students studying late into the night, the windows very dark outside of the brightly lit room, with desks crammed full of books and papers, and with rows of IV bags hanging from wires across the ceiling administering intravenous drips to the students as they pour over their work.
The Director of the Office of Academic Affairs, Mr. Xia, said that the IV bags contain nothing more than amino acids to help restore health.
Apparently the state offers a subsidy for each graduating senior that participates in the Gao Kao exams for amino acids, and that those students who aren’t feeling well can go to the infirmary to get them delivered intravenously.
However, due to recent weather conditions and a wave of poor student health, the demand from students for the amino acid drips had been so great that the school arranged for the placement of the IVs directly in the classroom to eliminate ” the trouble of running back and forth between the infirmary and the classroom.”Continue Reading
