I’m so glad that stupid criminals who think they are going to get away with bragging about their crimes on Facebook aren’t learning from each other’s mistakes because then I wouldn’t get to write stories like this one about 21-year old Michael Ruse and his online confessions!
While Ruse was on trial for assaulting his friend’s father with a baseball bat, he thought it would be a really good idea to say to a friend who asked him how the case was going on Facebook, ‘I think I got away with it tbh x (sic)’. Actually, I don’t think you did!!
Thankfully one of Ruse’s Facebook friends had a conscience and brought a printed copy of the status and handed it in to Portsmouth Crown Court. Then the bragging buffoon was left with no choice but to change his plea to guilty!
Ruse commented on several other posts relating to his crime, including one where he referred to the judge presiding over his case as ‘stuck up’! But, Judge Ian Pearson had the last laugh when he had to change his plea. He said: ‘You were stupid enough to put on Facebook what amounted to a full confession. Your stupidity really is not much mitigation.’
Ruse was given a suspended sentence, a curfew and a tag, which he also complained about online, obviously not realizing how lucky he was to escape a jail-term! Continue Reading
