Good news for dieters who prefer the couch to the gym, a new research study from the University of Westminster has found that watching horror movies cause viewers to burn off nearly 200 calories per film – that is nearly a whole bar of chocolate!
So watching a 90 minute (or thereabouts) horror movie that gets your adrenalin pumping and your heart rate jumping could burn off as many calories as a 30 minute walk!

Researchers from the University measured the total energy expenditure of 10 different people while they watched a number of scary movies.
They recorded the viewers’ heart rates, oxygen intake, carbon dioxide output and found that the number of calories used was increased by about a third on average.
