Check out this comic created by young artist Paige Hall that has been gathering quite a bit of internet attention recently after she posted it on her Tumblr.

Paige completed the piece as part for her comics in literature class and her paper was based upon the hyper-sexualization of women in the world of comics. Paige decided to use her own experience to really personalize the piece and it is a stark reminder of some of the terrible discrimination that cosplayers often have to suffer. Awesome FanArt: DC & Marvel Best Buddies As Imagined By Darren Rawlings

Most comic book fans will at some stage or another have wondered what would happen if the worlds of DC and Marvel collided. Which characters would be allies, which would be formidable foes and which ones would be besties!

Artist Darren Rawlings is one person who often found himself wondering who would be best buddies and so he put together the “Little Friends” series of drawings.

“Little Friends” is an adorably cute series that showcases these possible DC and Marvel friendships along with a little caption that sums up the character’s relationship.

Superman Issue 13 will see Clark Kent, the Man of Steel’s good-natured alter-ego undergo some seriously dramatic lifestyle changes.

The issue, which will be available digitally and in comic stores on Wednesday will see reporter Clark Kent quit his job at the Metropolis newspaper The Daily Planet. Kent has been an employee at The Daily Planet since the DC Comics superhero’s earliest days back in the 1940s.

DC’s “The New 52” re-launch a little while ago saw Superman’s status quo altered quite a bit. He broke up with his beloved Lois and seemed to moving on in the Justice League pages where he shared a kiss with Wonder Woman.

Quitting The Daily Planet in Issue 13 is a kind of follow on from this, he still obviously has strong feelings for Lois, but he also being persistently hassled by his editor-in-chief Perry White for not digging up enough Superman stories. His boss’ boss Morgan Edge is also on his case and these factors combine push him to make his dramatic exit – bemoaning that journalism has now given way to entertainment and calling on his peers to stand up for “truth” and “justice”!Continue Reading

Batgirl As A Teen Detective?

batgirl comic Batgirl As A Teen Detective?

Because she has been trained by one of the world’s best detectives and sharpest minds, Batgirl is an ideal character for her own series of detective stories. Cartoonist Adam Watson has put together some concept art featuring the young, inquisitive Batgirl as a teen investigator and you could easily see it getting the comic book treatment or becoming a cartoon series.

Personally I really like her detective kit which features a range of items, some of which you would expect to find in amongst a young girls handbag and that you can imagine being useful at the scene of a crime. Then of course there is the other stuff, that most normal girls wouldn’t have on them, like the pocket telescope and the lock picks that dad would kill her over, if he ever found out!

I think she’d make a great teen detective and would love to see her using her wit and kit to solve mysteries on a regular basis!

Renowned British comic book author Alan Moore looks set to ruffle some magical feathers with his latest comic “The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Century 2009” which features an Antichrist figure who bears an uncanny resemblance to the much-loved Harry Potter. Moore is one of the world’s most respected and revered comic writers, many of his books have been adapted into Hollywood blockbusters including The Watchmen, V for Vendetta and From Hell.

The School of Library and Inoformation Management at Emporia State University (Kansas, USA) unveiled a comic book aimed at generating new found excitement for librarianship and increasing the awareness of the many opportunities that an MLS/MLIS degree can provide. From the same team that created Library of the Living Dead and Monster Clash, Supreme Librarians in Metaspace is a promotional comic that highlights the many facets of librarianship in a quirky, tongue-in-cheek manner. We hope that this resource will encourage prospective and current SLIM students, alumni, and librarians around the world to take a look at the profession in a new light. And maybe have a laugh or two while doing it.

The proposal splash page to X-Men issue 50 featuring Northstar proposes to his boyfriend Kyle Jinadu(who is not superpowered), is up for auction on eBay.

The auction is being conducted by the representative for artist Mike Perkins and the winner gets his five preliminary sketches as well as the final drawing.

At the time of writing this story, the current bid is US $890.

The wedding is expected to take place in issue 51, which will arrive in stores in late June. Issue 50 is expected to hit newsstands on May 22.
