The funeral of Rhythm & Blues star Etta James was attended by hundreds of friends and family who gathered together to celebrate the life of talented singer.

Special guest performers who paid tribute to Etta included Stevie Wonder and Christina Aguilera, and Reverend Al Sharpton, a civil rights activist delivered a heartfelt eulogy to influential artist.

In his speech, Sharpton read from a statement sent by President Barack Obama, which said that Grammy Award winner Etta would be remembered for “her legendary voice and her contribution to our nation’s musical heritage.” He also said that she helped to break down racial barriers with her music, during an era when segregation was still the law throughout the majority of the US states.

Aguilera told mourners that she has been including a cover of Etta’s timeless hit ‘At Last’ at her concerts, as a tribute to the woman she called an ‘inspiration’.

Etta died on January 20th, aged 73, after a long battle with leukemia and other ailments.
