DC Renumbering & The Catwoman Contortion

The two hot topics of conversation amongst the comic book community at the moment are DC’s decision to renumber the New 52 DC Universe and the Catwoman ‘origins’ cover.

Both subjects have angered fans, the new renumbering system, which will see every single comic produced get a #0 issue, has readers holding their hands up in protest because the whole lot were only renumbered last year. According to Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras though, there is a valid reason for the renumbering, he said: “some issues will tell the origins of a character or team, or in some case[s] where an origin has already been told, they will fill in the blanks in terms of questions readers may have about the New 52 DC Universe.”

But toplessrobot.com say that they should have done this last year, considering that the 2011 reboot was done as a means to introduce new readers and fans to the histories of the characters…You can kinda see the point they are trying to make.

So next is Catwoman’s #0 issue cover…On said controversy-stirring cover, our slinky feline femme is positioned in such a way as to accentuate her assets (and I’m not talking crime-fighting skills), it is all butt and boob!!

According to several comic book fansites, Catwoman’s contorted pose is exceptionally unrealistic and has been the subject of several mocking imitation sketches. Oh Oh DC, you’ve done it this time…
While I can see exactly what the mockers are on about when they are bagging the Catwoman sketch, it does seem a little weird to me that of all the fantastical, insane, unrealistic stuff that goes on in comic books, a large portion of the fanbase has decided to take exception to this particular cover.

Gamma Squad has a nice little collection of artists making fun of the Catwoman’s #0 issue cover, which is well worth checking out.
