How To Win Monopoly In Only 4 Turns

Those of you who play, or used to play Monopoly will no doubt know that it can be a very long, tactical battle which usually results in games that go on for an hour or more (depending on how many are playing). However if the dice is kind (or unkind) then it can be over in about 21 seconds, as DJM over at scatterplot demonstrates.

This is a scripted game of course, the die didn’t actually land that way and it was executed to demonstrate just how quickly it can end if the dice are particularly cruel to one and really really kind to another in a 2-player game. Continue Reading

Hasbro Horrors: Toy Company In Epic Kid Communication Fail

Hasbro might be one of the most renowned toy manufacturers in the world, but they have just shown that they (or at least some of their employees) don’t have a bloody clue when it comes to communicating with children.

This epic customer communication fail was brought to our attention by the bitterwallet.com who published an email interchange between a 6-year-old girl and the celebrated toy makers.

Jennifer O’Connell’s 6-year-old daughter was alarmingly disturbed by the fact that her favorite game, Guess Who! had a whole load more male characters than female characters. She wasn’t being gripey for no reason either – apparently (it’s been a long time since I played Guess Who!) the game has only 5 female characters to the 19 male characters! Over-Excited Dr Who Fan Makes Guess Who Game Dedicated To Show

Doctor Who fanatic Karen Kavett decided that she loved the cult television show so much that she didn’t want to play regular Guess Who any more, but wanted a board game dedicated to the time-travelling Doctor and all the weird and wonderful people and creatures he meets whilst bouncing from place to place in his Tardis.

Slightly off-topic but I wonder if Doctor Who has to pay the congestion charge for his Tardis when he goes into central London during peak times? Answers on a postcard to PO BOX…

Kavett purchased an old style version of the game from eBay, because she wanted the model she used to have that quintessentially 80s feel to it, then proceeded to paint, print out and modify the game so that all aspects of it were entirely Doctor Who orientated. Continue Reading

Doctor Who Chess: The Ultimate Fight over the Safety of the Universe

If bow ties are cool and fezzes are cool, then chess must be cool as well.

Emmi Visser, EldalinSkywalker on deviantart, created two Doctor Who chess sets for the world’s enjoyment. On each set the boards run at 31 x 31 cm. The pieces are all made from polymer clay, with the tallest pieces being 7 cm and the smallest standing at about 3 cm.

These chess sets allow you to play as either the heroes of Who or the forces of evil. The first chess set, shown above, depicts a combination of characters from series three and four of Doctor Who. We get the Master, Cassandra, Cybermen, Weeping Angels, and many more on one side, and then the Doctor, River, Oods, Captain Jack, and more on the other.Continue Reading
