Star Basketball Player Anthony Davis Trademarks His Mono-Brow

Anthony Davis, who is hotly tipped to be the No.1 pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft by New Orleans Hornets, has made the headlines (or should we say browlines) for something other than his incredible basketball skills!

The 19-year-old sports star is in the news because of his decision to trademark the phrases “Fear The Brow” and “Raise The Brow” that were spawned from his well recognized, connected eyebrows.

He told CNBC: “I don’t want anyone to try to grow a unibrow because of me and then try to make money off of it…Me and my family decided to trademark it because it’s very unique.”
‘Unique’ wouldn’t have been the first word that sprung to mind if I was trying to describe a unibrow, although maybe because of my Mediterranean linage, I’ve come across quite a few of them in my time and the men in our culture are well known for possessing them!

Davis claims that despite the fact that people often tell him that he should trim the unibrow and have two eyebrows like everybody else, he refuses because it is so talked about!

NCCA rules prevented Davis from capitalizing on any ‘Brow’ merchandise in his freshman year with the Kentucky Wildcats, because it could compromise his eligibility. However the school did keep a watchful eye on the merchandise being sold, and Jason Schlafer, the school’s associate athletic director for marketing said that they wrote several “cease-and-desist letters”. However, Shlafer explained that people were getting rather “creative” with ways to profit from Davis’ distinctive feature towards the end of the season.

Seems like Davis is rather proud of his distinguishing brow, because when he was asked if he would be tempted to shave it off as part of a sponsorship deal with a razor company, he claimed he would not part with his precious browline. He did say he would possibly consider doing an advert where he would ‘pretend’ to shave the precious unibrow, but he would want to throw the razor down at the last moment!!

Wow, this guy really likes his brows and this story just goes to show that people will trademark just about anything these days!!
