Stamen Shows How George Takei’s Facebook Pics Go Viral

Those of you with Facebook accounts will no doubt have seen numerous images posted by George Takei frequently appear in your newsfeed. Whether you are one of his 2.8 million followers or you just have buddies who share his often hilariously funny pictures it’s highly unlikely that you aren’t aware of his omniscient social media presence!

Nowadays Takei is probably better known for his Facebook page than for his portrayal of much loved Star Trek character Hikaru Sulu.

This interesting video from Stamen is a visualization of how Takei’s pictures spread across the internet like a Facebook wildfire – with branches in different colors showing shares from each gender and ‘explosions’ that signal new bursts of activity!

Definitely worth having a peek – as is the adorable picture of Marvin the Martian(below) on the red planet that Takei shared to parody the landing of NASA’s rover Curiosity on Mars in August.
