Japan is well-known for having something of a fascination with all things robotic and true to this form, a new ‘Robot Restaurant’ has opened up in the Shinjuku, Tokyo where scantily clad cabaret dancing robots are the center of attention.
Costing 10 billion yen (£83m/$130m) the Robot Restaurant’s main attraction are the giant robots which look like women from waist up and are robotic from the waist down. Customers at the restaurant have the opportunity to try their hand at controlling the robots themselves, or just sitting back and watching the show while the restaurant staff do the steering.
The fem-bots are based on the character of Valkyrie from the game Soul Calibur, some are dressed in military outfits among others but they are not the only entertainment – drummers, tanks and fighter aircrafts make dining at the restaurant something of a spectacle.
Entry costs 3000 Yen (£25/$40) which allows a peek at the robot show and a drink. Sushi is also served but the food isn’t really the focal point of this particular place! The performance takes place twice a night, every night of the week except Sunday, when we imagine that the hard working robots get a night to crack open a can of WD40 to relax and unwind.
A flatbed truck has been touring Tokyo advertising the Robot Restaurant, two of the robot-gals sit aboard the truck accompanied by a guy dressed in what looks like a Boba Fett outfit encouraging people to stop in and see the show.
