Seattle Children’s Hospital Launches “Cat Immersion Project” For Cancer Teen Missing Her Kitteh

16-year-old Maga Barzallo Sockemtickem is a patient at the Seattle Children’s Hospital and because the cancer she is suffering from has compromised her immune system, she is unable to leave her hospital room.

Staff at the hospital wanted to do something to help improve the stay for the girl, who is currently undergoing post-transplant treatment and when they discovered that the thing she missed the most was her beloved moggy Merry, they asked their Facebook fans to join them in the ‘Cat Immersion Project.’

The Hospital asked users to post pictures of their cats and then put all of these images together and used a projector to display the slideshow in Maga’s room. To really enhance the experience for the young teen, the slideshow of the thousands of kittehs runs alongside a recording of purring cats.

The Facebook post said: “Help us make Maga’s day – post your favorite cat photos to our wall!” and the response they got was remarkable, some 3,000 pictures were submitted!

In the video clip, you can really hear how happy the ‘Cat Immersion Project’ has made this little girl, on the hospital’s pulse blog she said: “I can’t tell you how it feels sometimes, feeling disconnected and cut off from the world, and then with something like cat pictures bringing me back…Thank you all for your kind words, and well wishing. Its means more then you can ever know.”

This is another one of those really heartwarming stories that go some way towards restoring your faith in humanity. It’s also reminds you just how great the internet is for stuff like this!
