
Outspoken Russian Punk Band/Political activist Pussy Riots will be releasing an eBook entitled PUSSY RIOT: A Punk Prayer For Freedom. The book will include letters from the jailed members of the band, translated courtroom statements and will include tributes and messages of support from high profile supporters like Yoko Ono, JD Samson and Johanna Fateman of from left-wing band Le Tigre, Karen Finley, Justin Vivian Bond and Eileen Myles.
The book will be available online on September 21st through the Feminist Press and any proceeds will go towards bolstering Pussy Riot’s legal defense.
3 members of the band, which contains approximately 12 members who all sport brightly colored balaclavas and attempt to keep their real identities hidden for fear of legal reprisals, are currently in jail awaiting an appeal for a conviction of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.
Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich received 2 year jail sentences for their alleged crimes however their treatment by the Russian authorities has been massively criticized by the West, angering civil liberties associates, freedom of speech advocates and Amnesty International.
In this video Pussy Riot thank their many supporters paying tribute to musicians like Madonna, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Greenday. They also attack the Russian authorities for thinking it ‘illegal to criticize your government’ or to stand up for the rights of the gay and lesbian communities.
