These weirdly intriguing heels are a collaboration project by Dutch artist Leanie van der Vyver and Dutch shoe designer René van den Berg.
Looking like something you see in the closet of a circus stilt-walker, the shoe has a reverse heel that the front of the foot and start of the shin is leaned against. The back of the foot is supported by what looks like the front part of a traditional shoe. Sounds confusing I know, but the video should make my awkward description seem that bit clearer!
They are aesthetically pleasing in a very strange and bizarre manner but the thought of putting your feet into them and attempting to walk is enough to fill you with dread and fear.

That is the desired effect; they are intended to be a commentary on today’s impossible and unrealistic beauty standards, something that those of us who regularly squish our feet into painfully high, yet ‘beautiful’ heels will understand. The insane shoe has been nominated for a design prize at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie.
Just watching how they make the model in the video walk, I can’t help but think that they’d be perfect for Halloween; giving the wearer that authentic zombie shuffle or making them look like they’ve gone a couple of rounds with Misery’s Annie Wilkes!
