When you stay in a hotel, you don’t normally expect to be stuck sleeping in a room with bed that is chained the wall, decorated in all sorts of spooky artwork, dungeon like brick work and a cold hard concrete floor. But that nearly happened to a coworker of Redditor joelikesmusic, who tried to book a room at ZaZa Hotel in Houston, Texas, at the last minute and was given room 322.

Joelikesmusic explains: “Hotel was booked solid and my colleague managed to score a room unplanned. We all had normal ZaZa style rooms (swank) and he ended up in this goth dungeon closet…We asked about it at the front desk and the clerk looked it up and said ‘that room isn’t supposed to be rented’ and immediately moved him.

Intrigued by the creepy room and probably wondering if he had stumbled upon a real life “Room 1408” (Stephen King’s horror hotel room) joelikesmusic took some pictures of the eerie room and put the album on Imgur. It was an instant hit, receiving more than 250,000 views.

Meanwhile Reddit’s bright minds and conspiracy theorists went straight to work trying to figure out what in the hell it was all about.
Redditor quakerlaw said; “322 is a number relevant to the Skull & Bones secret society at Yale.
Whereas another Redditor cheops1853 managed to shed yet more light on the significance of the number and even explain the weird portrait of the guy that looked like some sort of company CEO or director that was randomly thrown in with the dark images of skulls and creepy faces.

Cheops1853 said; “322 isn’t just relevant to Skull & Bones, but to a large number of collegiate secret societies. This doesn’t nail it to one society, but it would narrow it down some if that’s really the story behind the room…Interestingly, the guy in the portrait, Jay Cormeaux, went to LSU, which is home of The Friars. They’re a secret society whose symbol also includes the skull and crossbones.
But, as is often the case, the weird, creepy hotel room isn’t really a big secret and its backstory does not lead to some clandestine society that worships the occult. Apparently it’s just another one of the many themed rooms at the ZaZa hotel. Well that’s if you believe hotel spokeswoman Kyra Coots.

Coots told the Houston Press that the room is actually called “Hard Times” and is not “secret” nor is there anything prohibiting it from being rented. She even said that the company president has stayed in the “Hard Times” room for the best part of 2 months…So maybe it’s his secret fetish room and this whole “theme” thing is just a cover for it!
Or maybe what Coots said is true and the clerk who told joelikesmusic’s colleague that it wasn’t supposed to be rented out was just trying to add to the air of mystery of the room and give them the heebie-jeebies for the sake of it! Well played sir.
