In a heartwarming tale that is also proof that the internet really is making the world a much smaller place and helping to bring people together, photographer Patrick Lu took these fab photos of a man proposing to his girlfriend and then found the happy couple via Reddit.
Lu saw the man getting down on one knee and proposing on the capital grounds in Austin, Texas and really captured the romance of the moment in this series of pictures. Not wanted to gatecrash their special moment, he posted the picture on Reddit, and wrote “did any of you propose at the capital last night?”
Lu’s post was instantaneously popular with Redditors and made it quickly to the top of /r/Austin with 1,400 up votes. Many of the sites users posted suggestions about ways to find the mystery couple captured in the snap, but the man who had proposed, Joel Bush found the post himself. He was overjoyed with the photographs and tweeted how pleased he was that the internet had shared his happy moment.
She said Yes.

WHAT THE WHAT! reddit.com/r/Austin/comme… Thank you, Internet,
@reddit, and@imgur. cc@jenniferkorr@alexisohanian@mattstrader@katmanalac— joelbush (@joelbush) August 3, 2012
Bush explained to Mashable that his friends had alerted him to the post and that he was an active techie, so he wasn’t really surprised that he found out about the pictures so quickly. Of the photos, Bush said: “We experienced that magic on its own terms, with no thought about posing or anything. And, because the photographer did such an awesome job, we also have that precise moment and her beautiful reaction captured for safekeeping. It’s pretty priceless.”
So
@panotes emailed me the photo last night and@suckaplease told me while@regularing this morning that he saw it on Reddit. Bonkers.— joelbush (@joelbush) August 3, 2012
Lu said that he thought Reddit was the best way of locating the subjects of his photos and said that he thought Bush was a techie from his attire and believed that he would see the post. Lu said Bush was “wearing flip flops and jeans, and that’s like a uniform for us programmers these days. With a lot of techies, you have a lot of Redditors. I figured someone would have recognized them eventually.”
Thanks,
@dgafpat: reddit.com/r/Austin/comme…. AMAZING. Need photography? Look him up: patlu.com/blog/. Internets are awesome.— joelbush (@joelbush) August 3, 2012
Lu and Bush are meeting up very soon so that Lu can give Bush a full resolution photo, which Bush has already he is going to frame.
