New York rock act Interpol has parted ways with indie home Matador Records and will sign a new deal with Capitol, sources say. The group will hit the studio in the fall to begin recording its third album, which is tentatively due in mid-2007.

Prosecutors plan to keep an eye on Madonna’s weekend concert in Duesseldorf to see if the pop diva repeats the mock crucifixion scene that has drawn fire from religious leaders.
Johannes Mocken, a spokesman for prosecutors in Duesseldorf, said Tuesday that a repeat of that scene during Sunday’s concert could be construed as insulting religious beliefs.

According to a biological scientist from the U.S. Geological Survey, human culture may be influenced by a parasite that commonly infects cats.

“In populations where this parasite is very common, mass personality modification could result in cultural change,” says the scientist, Kevin Lafferty, who’s based at the University of California, Santa Barbara in a press release, variations in the prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii “may explain a substantial proportion of human population differences we see in cultural aspects that relate to ego, money, material possessions, work and rules.”

Correspondents of the Komsomolskaya Pravda daily said that not long before he passed away, Professor Alexander Spirkin, well-known scholar and co-author of the Great Soviet Encyclopedia, admitted in an interview that the Soviet KGB employed clairvoyants to spy on their enemies.
Alexander Spirkin used to head a secret lab under the Soviet government and worked closely with clairvoyants hired to carry out special missions for the Kremlin.
“I used to work closely with hundreds of all sorts of extrasensory individuals,” Mr. Spirkin recalled in a conversation with Komsomolskaya Pravda correspondents.

All UK airports have now relaxed the restrictions on hand luggage introduced in the wake of Thursday’s alert over a possible terror plot.
