These pictures are of the last project that the late, great Steve Jobs worked on before he passed away in 2011. They are from the futuristic new Apple headquarters that Jobs pitched to the city council of Cupertino California in one of the last public appearances he ever made.

Since Jobs pitched the project, some alterations have been made to the design of the huge headquarters which looks a little like a landed UFO! Apple has decided to move the 1,000 seat auditorium further from a road, introduce more parking spaces, remove a footbridge that was placed over a creek and added a new building to store utility equipment. The main building will remain largely unchanged from Jobs’ design, It is 2.8 million square feet and will host more than 14,000 employees!

Apple has submitted the amended designs and a construction timetable to the city of Cupertino, the place that will forever be known as Apple’s hometown. The tech giants await an environmental impact report from the city council which is likely to take approximately 7 months to compile. Continue Reading

EyeSee – The New Mannequin That Uses Hidden Camera To Collect Consumer Data

eyesee EyeSee – The New Mannequin That Uses Hidden Camera To Collect Consumer Data

Eyesee mannequins are displayed in the window of a Benetton Group SpA store at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California.

With the luxury goods markets suffering from a lethargic economy some retailers are trying out different means and methods to increase their sales. One such tactic is the deployment of the EyeSee Mannequin which is produced by the Italy-based firm Almax. Whilst the EyeSee looks like all the other mannequins you would come across in store displays, it is in fact very different. It is fitted with a hidden camera that captures images of consumers and uses facial recognition software that can identify a person’s age, race and gender. The product was launched in December of 2011 and retails for approximately €4,000 ($5,125).

Retailers can then take the demographic data collected by the EyeSee and use it to adapt their offers, products, promotions and displays to target the consumers most likely to make a purchase. Several retailers have already started using the EyeSee and have already made changes prompted by the information collected by the mannequin. One EyeSee user hired Chinese-speaking staff after the mannequin’s data helped it to gauge the size of its Asian customer base, whereas another launched a new line of children’s clothing after noting that kids made up the majority of the afternoon clientele. robot scanner Amazing High Speed, Robot Book Scanner That Can Capture 250 Pages In One Minute

Researchers in Japan have created a commercial book scanner that is able to capture 250 pages per minute, which means that it can get through your average novel in just over 60 seconds. This short video shows the amazing machine in action, flipping through the pages at a lightning speed and producing some incredible results! This thing goes through books almost as fast as Johnny Five in Short Circuit!

The machine takes 2 high resolution shots of each page (400 ppi) during the procedure and then uses these to restore scans to a flat appearance without any signs of page deformation.

Human’s will be forgiven for feeling slightly unnecessary when the robot scanner is about, as all they need to do is switch it on and load the book into the scanner. After that, the process is fully automated. The machine has been dubbed the BFS-Auto and should be commercially available in 2013. Continue Reading
