New architecture and design studio Kawamura-Ganjavian have launched a Kickstarter project for their innovative Ostrich Pillow, a portable, uniquely shaped pillow that will facilitate power-napping in almost any environment. They are supported by Studio Banana Things and so far have raised nearly $50,000 of their $70,000 goal to mass market the product with 22 days to go.
Kawamura- Ganjavian focus is “observing and understanding contemporary human needs” and it looks like they might be on to a winner with the Ostrich Pillow. These days people spend more time at work, travelling or just leading a hugely hectic existence, if this Ostrich Pillow really does make napping look at simple as it does in the pictures then I think it could be a huge success.
Statistics suggest that taking a power nap can increase our productivity by 34%, so this little design could really help you if you are one of those people who works exceptionally long hours!
Anything that facilitates the sneaking in of cheeky zzzz’s is a good idea in my book and I definitely hope that they reach their bid and the Ostrich Pillow makes it into the mainstream!
The designers describe the pillow as “a revolutionary new product to enable easy power naps anytime, everywhere…[It] has been designed to allow you to create a little private space within a public one, to relax and unwind. Its soothing soft interior shelters and isolates your head and hands (mind and body) for a short break, without needing to leave your desk, chair, bench or wherever you may be.”
I really really want one of these!!
One little warning however, if they do succeed (and I think they will) I wouldn’t recommend using the Ostrich Pillow to sleep at the airport like the guy in the promotional video, (unless you have friends and family guarding your baggage), because nobody needs contraband snuck into their suitcase while they are taking a powernap!
