It’s that time of the year where political activists are beginning to speak up about the upcoming United States presidential election. It seems like everyone has something to about this election. Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives, Liberals, Nerds… wait, Nerds?
Yes, it seems that Obama has taken the Nerd vote by storm, thanks to the web-site Nerds for Obama.
In their About Us page, the people over at Nerds for Obama describe themselves as:
We’re just a bunch of nerds that value things like equal rights, women’s health, the environment, education, and ideas based in science. We therefore find ourselves heartily endorsing one candidate for president this year: Barack Obama.
The site sells T-shirts, posters, buttons, and stickers all in support of president Barack Obama. The shirts are all being sold for $20, whereas the buttons only cost $3 and the stickers only $2. Each product highlights a different fandom from geek culture in support of Obama, such as “Targaryens for Obama” or “Occupy Gringotts.”
They state that the majority of their profits will be donated to Obama’s campaign. The FAQ section goes on to say that they do not take donations, and that they recommend people donate directly to Obama’s campaign instead. They also have stated that they are working on getting more geeky merchandise made that touches on even more fandoms for everyone to enjoy.
The site also has a Digital Flair section, which they ask their followers to reblog on their Tumblrs, post on their facebooks, or upload anywhere on the Internet to show their support.
