Let’s face it: Stephen King movies are hit or miss.  In fact, they are usually either genius or pure crap.

His name has been attached to the stories behind some of the best dramas and horror flicks you’ll ever have the pleasure of watching.  For instance, Stand By Me comes to mind as one of the best stories ever put on film.  But then there’s Sleepwalkers, and ya know, I just don’t find cats or mother-son incest to be all that funny…or scary.  (Although I will have to admit that Woody and Soon Li have put a certain degree of humor in father-daughter canoodling.)

So for every Carrie, there is a Dreamcatcher.  For every Green Mile, there is The Mangler.  And now we have The Mist.  The movie follows King’s novella centering around a small-town community trapped in a supermarket, battling a preternatural fog and the creatures within it.  I would be snarky and say that I liked the film the first time around when it was called The Fog, but a) that would be a lie since The Fog blew harder than an Idahoan senator in an airport bathroom and b) the movie looks as if it will focus more on the inner-demons of those trapped rather than on the evil inside the mist.

So I guess I just won’t say that.

The Mist

Judge for yourself by watching the exclusive new trailer over at Yahoo! Movies.  I think it looks mighty good, but then I have been wrong before.  Can we all say Storm of the Century

Yeah, I thought we could.

Readers, let me know what you think of the trailer, and comment on your favorite King movies and the worst stinkers of his collection!
