Trailer Trash: Stephen King’s The Mist
Let’s face it: Stephen King movies are hit or miss. In fact, they are usually either genius or pure crap.
His name has been attached to the stories behind some of the best dramas and horror flicks you’ll ever have the pleasure of watching. For instance, Stand By Me comes to mind as one of the best stories ever put on film. But then there’s Sleepwalkers, and ya know, I just don’t find cats or mother-son incest to be all that funny…or scary. (Although I will have to admit that Woody and Soon Li have put a certain degree of humor in father-daughter canoodling.)
So for every Carrie, there is a Dreamcatcher. For every Green Mile, there is The Mangler. And now we have The Mist. The movie follows King’s novella centering around a small-town community trapped in a supermarket, battling a preternatural fog and the creatures within it. I would be snarky and say that I liked the film the first time around when it was called The Fog, but a) that would be a lie since The Fog blew harder than an Idahoan senator in an airport bathroom and b) the movie looks as if it will focus more on the inner-demons of those trapped rather than on the evil inside the mist.
So I guess I just won’t say that.

Judge for yourself by watching the exclusive new trailer over at Yahoo! Movies. I think it looks mighty good, but then I have been wrong before. Can we all say Storm of the Century?
Yeah, I thought we could.
Readers, let me know what you think of the trailer, and comment on your favorite King movies and the worst stinkers of his collection!

The Shining. I’m not sure if it’s because of the story, or the director . . . but not only is it the best King novel put to film, it’s one of the best in the horror genre. Misery was pretty great too . . . Who’s directing The Mist?
Ya know, I always thought that Delores Claiborne was terribly underrated. “Sometimes being a bitch is all a woman has to hold onto” is a CLASSIC line.
The director of The Mist is Frank Darabont, who did The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption, both excellent in their own right.
I can’t wait to see it. I actually read this short story years ago in his “Skeleton Crew” book. And I’m glad that Marcia will be in this movie. I’m Gay but she makes me Harden. Get it? HAHA
Why is it the characters in these kinds of films never realize that they should NEVER listen to the crazy religious fanatic?! Have they not learned from characters like Christabella from ‘Silent Hill’ and Silas from ‘The Da Vinci Code’? Religious fanatics are almost always the reason terrible things are happening and if you just sacrifice them right away things will get better. It’s Gods way of weeding out the trouble makers. Wouldn’t you be tired of hearing someone constantly quoting you all the time?
This is my all time fave King tale…basically a character study, the monster stuff is thrown in for good measure. Altho I hear they’ve ‘changed the ending’ (a MISTAKE as far as Im concerned) Im still anxious to see this…for those of you that are also excited, be sure to snag your ‘Mist’ screensaver I created from my site (www.karcreat.com under ‘Custom Savers’)…its free!
