If you thought the World Russian Egg Roulette Championship is the strangest competition you are likely to hear about for awhile, well think again…Apparently there is a competition where people painstakingly spend hours creating wedding dresses out of toilet paper in a bid to win the Annual Cheap Chic Weddings Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest.
The rules are very clear, participants have to make their dresses out of Charmin toilet paper and nothing else. Thankfully though they are allowed to use tape, glue and a needle and thread – otherwise the majority of the entrees would end up looking more like a mummification outfit that a dress you’d want to wear on your special day!
The contest, which is in its 8th year, is put on by Cheap-Chic Weddings and sponsored by family favorites Charmin, it was judged at the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Times Square Odditorium and more than 700 people entered this year’s competition!
Susan Brennan from Lake Orchard, Michigan won the top prize, receiving a check for $2,012 as a reward for the weeks of hard work she put into her dress. Katrina Chalifoux’s dress got the second prize of a $1000, and third placed Jennifer Henry got $500 for her efforts.
Cheap-Chic-Weddings.Com that host the contest are a website dedicated to helping budding brides save money whilst organizing their big day and their Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest is a bit of a hit, increasing in popularity each year.
Susan Bain, who is one of the founders of the value for money website said “The quality of talent that presents itself each year always amazes us…This year’s entries included several dresses that had intricate details like faux embroidery, ruffles, pleats and even lace effects.” Still, it is a bit of a random substance to make a wedding dress out of though, don’t you think?
I wonder what gets done with the dresses after the competition? Would you wear a wedding dress made out of toilet paper?
