Miami Causeway Cannibal Victim -Ronald Poppo Is Awake And Walking

In a horrific attack that shocked the world, homeless man Ronald Poppo was attacked in broad daylight on Miami’s MacArthur Causeway by Rudy Eugene, who was naked and appeared to be high on some sort of hallucinogenic drug, savagely chewed the majority of his face off.

The brutal ‘zombie attack’ lasted nearly 18 minutes before Eugene was shot and killed by police officer, Jose Rivera. It was one in a number of vicious cannibalistic attacks that occurred within days of one another and have led to several tongue-in-cheek references to a possible ‘zombie apocalypse’!

Poppo was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital but the injuries to his face, the majority of which had been chewed off, were so severe that many feared that he would not survive the attack. His nose is missing, one of his eyes has been gouged out and the other damaged and he also had two ‘mysterious’ holes in his chest, which were possibly caused by the bullets shot by police to kill his attacker. He also suffered a brain injury in the attack, which doctors said was similar to someone who had been in a car crash.

Ronald Poppo is recovering in hospital

Doctors said that he was at serious risk of infection from his attacker’s saliva, however just a few weeks after the attack, updates from the doctors who are treating Poppo seem positive.

They have said that he is awake, alert, eating and walking around with the physical therapists. Doctors said that he has been talking about swimming, which he used to enjoy before the attack, has asked for pizza, orange juice and Italian food and doesn’t want the television in his room on unless the Miami Heat basketball games are on!

They said that not once has Poppo complained about the excruciating pain that he must be experiencing since the terrible attack and that he wants to talk about ‘routine things’. Poppo will need several skin grafts and facial reconstruction to repair the damage that was done to his face.

Poppo’s left eye was gouged out by Eugene and his right eye was severely damaged, but doctors are still hopefully that they might be able to restore vision to it. It has also been reported that social workers are trying to find Poppo some accommodation for when he leaves hospital, as he has been homeless for more than 30 years.

The Jackson Memorial Foundation set up a fund to help Poppo, currently the sum raised stands at around $15,000. He also qualifies for Medicaid and Medicare.

According to reports from the Miami Herald, Eugene’s autopsy discovered that there wasn’t actually any human flesh in his stomach, but there was some found between his teeth. Pathologists also found a number of undigested pills in the man’s stomach and he had marijuana in his system. Investigators believe that Eugene, who is originally from Haiti, could have been high on a drug called ‘bath salts’ which is a powerful hallucinogenic, however the results of the extensive toxicology reports will take several weeks to come through. Common effects of ‘bath salts’ include; psychotic episodes, feeling no pain, paranoid delusions, hallucinations and convulsions.

On Wednesday, Yovanka Bryant, 27, revealed herself as Rudy Eugene’s girlfriend of four months. She claimed that the man responsible for one of the atrocious and savage attacks seen in America for a long time was a ‘devout Christian’ and was ‘harmless’. She even went as far as to say that Eugene would have made a ‘good father’ to her children… Come on kids, let’s go play some football in the garden, if you score, I promise not to rip your face off with my teeth!! The mind boggles!

Maybe she is suffering from some sort of delusions too? Try telling Ronald Poppo that Rudy Eugene is ‘harmless’! In fact, I reckon that anyone who has seen the pictures of Poppo’s face after the attack, watched the footage or read about it, is going to have a hard time believing that!
