Quirky Spanish art collective Luzinterruptus travelled all the way to Australia to take back the streets with their art installation entitled ‘Literature vs Traffic.’
Melbourne’s famous Federation Square was covered in thousands of glowing books that stopped the traffic and had bystanders flabbergasted.
The books were collected by the Salvation Army after being discarded from public libraries. The group wanted to use their installation to take control of a public space and steal it back from the dense traffic that normally commandeers the area.
Hundreds of people stopped to examine the books scattered casually over the roads, with children seeming the most delighted and often stopping to sit and read from them.
A truly fascinating and innovative project indeed!!
