RIAA attacks Nine Inch Nails fans over leaked tracks
The Recording Industry Association of America, in all of its infinite wisdom, has been sending out cease-and-desist emails to websites posting tracks that were intentionally leaked. The tracks, from the upcoming Nine Inch Nails album Year Zero, were left on drives at venues during the band’s current European tour. Fans then found the drives and posted the songs online, exactly how it had been planned. Only now, the RIAA is going after the websites that are doing exactly what NIN wanted them to: sharing the tracks and creating buzz. Even industry insiders are saying “These f***ing idiots are going after a campaign that the label signed off on.” Guess what? We’ve known they’re idiots for a long time now. Year Zero will be released April 17.
