Former Mrs. Idaho Jamie Hilton’s story is a remarkable one. After she slipped and fell during a fishing trip with her husband, the 36-year-old mum needed groundbreaking surgery to save her from swelling on the brain.
She actually awoke from her coma to find that a quarter of her skull was missing and it had been grafted into her stomach to keep it “living” while doctors waited to reattach it to her head. If there was to be any chance of reattaching the skull to Mrs Hilton’s head, then it would have to be kept sterile and nourished and that’s why doctors chose to insert it into her stomach.

If it wasn’t for the pictures you might be tempted to think this was some sort of weird spoof story, but the images clearly show her with part of her skull missing and its shape protruding from her torso. Doctors decided to remove part of Mrs Hilton’s skull after her fall caused severe swelling on the brain and they needed to ease the pressure.

Mrs Hilton described her extraordinary experience in her blog entitled ‘Miracles…Believe in them’ where she expressed a massive amount of gratitude to the doctors that saved her life.
She is now back at home after the operation to reattach her skull to her head was a success. She said: “Surgery went as well as expected! My skull is back in my head… really weird to say;)…For now the only possible problems are infection or my body rejecting the skull being back in my head.”
