Looking at pictures of this insane loop-de-loop bridge by Evgeni Leonov for the Amsterdam Iconic Pedestrian Bridge contest would have Sonic the Hedgehog just itching to don his little red trainers and go tearing around the place!
Competition entrants were asked to submit an iconic pedestrian bridge intended to be built in the heart of Amsterdam reflecting contemporary design tendencies. The winning proposal would be geared to be an architectural symbol for the Netherlands capital, in the heart of the EU.
Despite the fact that this loop-de-loop bridge is beautiful, spectacular and much more interesting than your average footbridge, we don’t think it’s going to win the competition, simply because it is far too impractical to ever be built. Sorry Sonic, looks like you’re going to have to sit back down son!
Leonov’s bridge, aptly named “Loop” is certainly a sight to behold and he has even worked a café-observation deck at the top of it into the plans. Who knows, maybe one day in the future we’ll get the opportunity to cycle or walk through a bridge like this!
