When Google chairman Eric Schmidt was quoted in the press saying that the company hadn’t “done anything yet” with regards to submitting its own competing maps app for iOS 6, Apple users who had experienced numerous glitches with the iOS6 Maps App groaned in disappointment.
Now though, it appears that they can breathe a sigh of relief as a source inside Google has revealed that they are actually working on a Google Maps App for iOS and it should be ready for launch within a few months.
Apple’s Maps for iOS 6 has been the subject of international internet mockery since it was launched, with it spawning its own Hitler Reacts episode and various other memes. Some have called it “geographically incompetent” while others have bemoaned that it is useless for navigating via public transit. Many users were just expecting Google to make its own app, however Schmidt seemed to shoot that idea out of the sky and the company pointed users in the direction of the Web-based Google Maps.
Now though, this ‘unnamed source’ has told the New York Times, that an app is on the way and should be with us soon.
