In a wonderfully heartwarming and tradition-busting tale of geek romance, one Redditor proposed to her boyfriend Dylan in an incredibly unique and inventive way: via a Scott Pilgrim-themed scavenger hunt!
Thankfully, she didn’t have to battle to the death against all her fellas exes, but she did send him traipsing around the city of Toronto following clues marked in envelopes that contained pages of the novel.
When she decided she wanted to make the proposal, she first had to find out if her boyfriend Dylan was susceptible to the idea, after all – who would want to go to all that effort and then got shot out of the sky? After a little discussion, our leading lady got the response she was looking for, when Dylan told her he thought it would be “awesome” if she proposed. She then went about trying to get him off the scent so that her proposal would be a surprise.
The couple took a trip to Toronto where her plan started by handing him several different envelopes marked with a X that told the order they were in. On the back of the envelope was an address that Dylan had to find and once the couple got to each location, he would open the corresponding envelope.

The final location matched with the envelope that contained the proposal was the Casa Loma, which is of course the place where Ramona Flowers’ ex-boyfriend Lucas Lee was filming a movie in Book 2 of the Bryan Lee O’Malley series. There Dylan opened the magical envelope and said yes, earning himself a fiancée!
Prior to carrying out her fantastically elaborate proposal, she also further tweaked the tradition of marriage by asking Dylan’s mom for permission. Usually it is the man who asks the woman’s family for the honor of marrying their daughter, but she decided to do things differently.
Apparently her request went down well, as the two women laughed and joked with Dylan’s mom telling her that there was a “no return policy” on her son!!
