The latest update from upcoming Marvel movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier is that renowned MMA fighter Georges St-Pierre has been cast to play the role of Batroc in the eagerly anticipated film.
According to a report from the Latino Review, St-Pierre will play the role of Batroc the Leaper, a character that the experienced fighter seems well suited to.
For those of you who don’t know a great deal about the character of Batroc, he is a sometimes mercenary and criminal who has no superhuman abilities but is in excellent physical condition. Batroc is an Olympic-level weightlifter with insane agility and super-quick reflexes. He gets the name Batroc the Leaper because of his particularly well-developed leg muscles which allow him to leap huge distances. He is also an expert in hand-to-hand combat and a savate (French-style kickboxing) specialist. As well as being in great physical shape, Batroc is also an exceptional military tactician having served in the French Foreign Legion.
Unlike many villains in the Marvel universe, Batroc has a strong sense of honor and often turns against clients who he feels have duped him into committing crimes he would not otherwise carry out.
We cannot wait to see how this character will be worked into the plot of the movie which also stars Chris Evans as our mighty Cap, Anthony Mackie as the Falcon, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, Sebastian Stan as James “Bucky” Barnes, Emily VanCamp and Cobie Smulders.
Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L Jackson will be resuming their roles as the Black Widow and Nick Fury and it has recently been reported that Hollywood legend Robert Redford will also feature, playing a senior S.H.I.E.L.D agent named Peirce.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set after The Avengers, with recently thawed out super soldier Steve Rogers still trying to adapt to the modern world that he has awoken into. It will hit movie theaters in 3D and traditional 2D on April 4th 2014.
