South Korean rapper Psy and his insanely catchy hit “Gangnam Style” has overtaken teenage heartthrob Justin Bieber’s “Baby” as the most viewed YouTube video of all time.
On Saturday the viewcounts stood at 805 million for “Gangnam Style” and 803 million for “Baby”.
Bieber’s “Baby” has had the accolade since July of 2010 when it overtook the views for Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”. Though it has been around since February of 2010, “Baby” still gets between 350,000 and 500,000 views each day.
Since Psy’s “Gangnam Style” first began spreading from South Korea to the rest of the world back at the beginning of August – it has been an insane hit, that according to stats, is still being watched between 7 and 10 million times A DAY!
The graph will give you some sort of idea as to the rapid way in which “Gangnam Style” overtook “Baby”. According to the YouTube Trends “The velocity of popularity for PSY’s outlandish video is unprecedented.”
Bieber is still beating Psy when it comes to official channels. The South Korean rapper has just over 1 billion views in comparison to over 3 billion on Bieber’s VEVO channel.
Personally, I hate both songs are really wish they would go away and stop violating my ear drums – but as these statistics show, I seem to be in the minority.
