The vintage Ferrari that featured in Disney’s iconic 1968 movie The Love Bug has been put up for sale for a staggering $7.5million/£4.5million.
Those of you who remember the movie will remember that the 250 GT Ferrari was one of the many sports cars that couldn’t beat the adorable Herbie the Beetle with a mind of its own in an epic race.
But astronomical price-tag for the vehicle isn’t just because of its Disney Movie fame, apparently it is one of rarest, most prized vehicles because there were only 9 models of this particular Ferrari made by the company and 2 of those were lost to crashes. It was designed by infamous car builder Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti in 1956.
The sum of $7.5m is 20 times what its retail value would have been 2 decades ago. The coveted Ferrari found its way to the Walt Disney studios in 1965 having being sold on by US-based property developer Tony Parravano.
Now Ascot-based company Talacrest who are well known for buying and selling some of the most sought after Ferraris in the world, have shipped The Love Bug star back to the UK and have put it up for auction.
Mr. John Collins who runs Talacrest said:
“This Ferrari is very rare, they hardly ever come onto the market. There were just nine built and two of these were lost to crashes. It is in pristine condition and has won numerous awards. It is an incredibly sought after car”.
It has been claimed by some car experts that this Ferrari is now one of the most expensive cars to even appear on the open market in the UK.
