The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) is urging the public to sign their petition intended for the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection that calls on the U.S. Government to suspend their drone program.
EPIC want the program suspended until privacy regulations for the use of drones in U.S. airspace have been established.
The organization claims to have obtained documents via the Freedom of Information Act that suggest that the drones have the technology to identify humans and intercept signals. They said that 10 Predator B drones are currently operational in the border region – an area which houses more than two-thirds of the U.S. population.
Under federal law, the agency is obligated to respond to public petitions and EPIC is calling for people to sign up before the petition is submitted on March 18th 2013.
