When this blonde, blue-eyed, athletic-looking teenager walked into Berlin’s City Hall on 5th September last year, his story captured the imagination of the country…but maybe it’s because that story was from his imagination?
Now police have released a photograph of the boy, hoping that someone will recognize him and come forward with information!
The boy, known only as Ray went to the authorities asking for help. The modern-day Mowgli claimed to have been living in the forest for the last five years with his father who had recently passed away. He gave police only his first name – Ray and his date of birth 20th June 1994 and some other sketchy details about his past that authorities have been unable to confirm so far.
Ray, who spoke in English and just a few words of German, told Youth Services that he had buried his father in the woods under some stones, but police were unable to find the body. He said that his mother, who he named as Doreen, had been killed in a car accident that occurred when he was 12, but that he no other recollections of the accident. He told authorities that he thinks the scars on his face came from the same accident – he has 3 on his forehead and chin and one upon his right arm.
When he arrived to City Hall, Ray had on his person a tent, a newish looking backpack, clean clothes and a sleeping bag. Ray was also wearing a chain which had a letter D as a pendant, which he claimed was in memory of his mother.
Apparently Ray was unable (or he just refused) to provide authorities with any further details that could be used to help identify him, like a family name or birthplace. He was placed in an assisted living institution and given a legal guardian.
However authorities in Berlin have grave concerns about the authenticity of Ray’s story, which they described as “adventurous”. The police statement said: “The youth office and the Berlin police have great doubts about the boy’s story.”
Despite the fact that Ray’s story made the national headlines when he first approached the authorities for help, no one seemed to know anything about this mystery boy. They are hoping that by releasing his photograph to the international media, someone will recognize him and come forward with information.
