It’s not often you hear the words ‘deadly cannon’ and ‘bloody hilarious’ thrown together in the same sentence, unless of course you are a horrible warlord who finds death and destruction rather amusing. However in this video clip of the Indian army demonstrating the 155mm Field Howitzer 77 to the public, I can safely say that those two terms belong together.
The 155mm Field Howitzer 77 was manufactured by Swedish company Bofors in the 1980s, but the model in the video has been completely overhauled. The Indian army is retrofitting more than 400 of these cannons for deployment next year.
Watch as the soldiers do a weird little march/dance every time a different feature of the cannon is demonstrated. Whilst I understand that the soldiers movements around a weapon so dangerous must be choreographed and if they aren’t somebody’s going to end up with a missile in the eye, there is still something actually gut-bustingly funny about the way in which get into the groove and show us their funky moves!
It’s all a bit ‘Knees-up Mother Brown’ meets Bollywood. But don’t tell them I said that, I really don’t fancy that thing shot at me!
