Couple Go All-Out For Shrek Fairytale Wedding!

Check out these awesome pictures from the Shrek-themed wedding of Heidi Coxshall, 30 and Paul Bellas, 42, who said they were inspired to have the fairytale wedding by their 4-year-old son, Leo’s love of the Shrek movies! Leo attended the wedding dressed as Donkey, who was voiced by funny man Eddie Murphy in the classic film.

Heidi created the costumes herself and the bright green make-up took over an hour. Paul donned green ogre ears, furry eyebrows and green gloves to make the transformation into the loveable if uncouth creature!

The couple’s guests joined in on the fun, themselves coming as infamous characters from other celebrated fairytale characters. Heidi’s brother John gave her away, he was dressed as Muffin Man from Shrek 2!

For the ceremony, Heidi looked like a normal bride, but she transformed into the green ogre Fiona for the reception, in line with the film’s narrative which has the princess cursed to turn into an ogre when the sun sets.
The awesomely untraditional fairytale wedding took place last weekend at the Radisson Blu Hotel in St. Helier, Jersey.
Registrar Sue Groves said she had to see the couple before they made their Shrek transformations as she is not permitted to marry people who are unrecognizable. She said she had presided over numerous novelty weddings during her time as a registrar, but had never married two ogres!

Paul, a groundworker, said that the couple from Jersey, had been together 5 years when their son’s love of the movie inspired them to get married.
Paul said; “Leo was watching his Shrek DVD, which he absolutely loves, and Heidi said wouldn’t it be nice if we had a little Shrek wedding….The message behind Shrek is that it doesn’t matter what you look like or who you are, it’s all about true love – I thought it sounded absolutely perfect.”

Heidi added; “The Shrek idea basically came about through Leo and it made sense. I’m not the skinniest lady in the world so I thought I would make a pretty decent Fiona…Paul’s hasn’t quite got Shrek’s podgy face – but I thought he made a really handsome ogre on the day.”

The couple said that their guests all “embraced the idea and thoroughly enjoyed themselves – there were times when we fell about laughing.”

Sounds like a fantastic wedding to me!! May they live happily ever after!
