William Balfour has been arrested in connection with the triple murder of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew.

He will be charged with three counts of murder in the first degree, Chicago police confirmed on Monday.

Chicago Police Department’s mouthpiece Monique Bond said: ‘We have obtained an arrest warrant for William Balfour. He was released to Chicago detectives.’

Hudson’s mother Darnell Donnerson, 57, brother Jason Hudson, 29, and nephew Julian King, seven, were fatally shot by William on October 24th. He was originally questioned by police the day of the murders.

Balfour, who was married to Jennifer’s sister was transferred to an Illinois state prison after he was found to be in violation of his parole from separate criminal charges.

He was scheduled to have a parole violation hearing on Wednesday.

Writing on her MySpace page on Sunday, Jennifer wrote:

‘I want to thank each and every one of you for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. My sister and I take great comfort and strength from your love and concern.’
