Cynthia Rodriguez filed for divorce from New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez on Monday in Miami - citing his “extra-marital affairs” as the reason for the breakdown.

She has hired Houston attorney Earle Lilly to head a team of lawyers, including Maurice Kutner of Miami and she wants primary custody of their two children Natasha, three and two-month-old Ella Alexander.

The suit cites a “long period of infidelity on the part of Mr. Rodriguez, an all-star baseball player for the New York Yankees and one of America’s highest-paid sportsmen worth $220m USD”.

Maurice Kutner said:

“Cynthia feels that she has exhausted every opportunity to salvage the marriage, and that Alex has emotionally abandoned her and the children and has left her with no choice but to divorce him.”

According to NY Daily News, Cynthia also blames Madonna for the breakdown of her marriage:

“I believe he was having an affair with Madonna,” she told a friend, who spoke anonymously for fear of angering A-Rod. “She said she found a letter where Alex told Madonna: ‘You are my true soulmate.’”
“I feel like Madonna is using mind control over him,” Cynthia Rodriguez told the friend. “I don’t recognize the man he’s become. He was a sweet, beautiful, loving husband and father. Today he’s very cold and calculating.”

A-Rod has yet to speak out about the whole thing.

The divorce case will be held in Dade County (Fla.) Family Court.
