messi ronaldo Freaky Facts: Ronaldo 869 Days Older Than Messi, Ronaldo’s Son 869 Days Older Than Messi’s Son!

We don’t normally cover football stories on this site, but this is a little too weird not to mention!!

A few days ago esteemed Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi’s long term girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo gave birth to their son, Thiago and it wasn’t long before one of football’s many statisticians had worked out something very strange about the boy’s birth date.

Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid and Lionel Messi are often considered to be the two greatest footballers in the world at the moment, if not ever. Football fans spend hours debating which one of the two is better, which one they would prefer in their team, etc. Even people who don’t like football or watch the sport will have probably heard of these two enigmatic, brilliant players! Strange Sports: Traditional Japanese Swimming In 33lbs of Ancient Armor

Anyone who knows anything about Japanese culture knows how important the traditions of the Samurai are. However, something a lot of people may not know about is the traditional Japanese swimming that also has a firm place in pantheon of Japanese Martial arts.

Traditional swimming was first thought to have come about during Japan’s feudal 15th and 16th centuries – a time when intimidating samurai swordsmen were a common sight.

This style of swimming was a survival technique – competitors would have to be strong swimmers to stay above water in that heavy armor and used techniques and styles that would help them swim in difficult conditions. After all swimming in a calm, tepid swimming pool is very different experience to trying to swim against a current or in wavy conditions – especially in all that armor. But if a warrior did end up getting thrown in a river or having to cross difficult waters, the traditional swimming training would no doubt give them the kind of strength and skills that would make it easier to survive. New eBay Auction For Usain Bolt’s Olympic Camera

ebay usain bolt new New eBay Auction For Usain Bolt’s Olympic Camera

Last week we wrote an article about the eBay auction of the Nikon D4 that Usain Bolt famously used to snap the paps after winning a gold medal in the 200m at the London 2012 Olympic Games this summer.

Well it was all going swimmingly, bidding for the camera had gone up to $11,600 – with the proceeds of the sale set to go to educational and cancer research charities. Bolt had carved his name into the camera after taking the pics that were beamed across the globe, making the product entirely unique!

Then the item simply vanished. Scandinavian photojournalist Jimmy Wixtrom whom Bolt took the camera off at the Olympics had set up the auction and was informed by eBay that the item had been removed because it violated eBay’s charity auction policies. Apparently eBay don’t much like when you auction stuff on their site for any charities other than the ones they endorse.Continue Reading

One of the most memorable moments of the London 2012 Olympic Games was when the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt, grabbed a camera from Scandinavian newspaper photographer Jimmy Wixtröm and started taking pictures of his experience and also of the dozens of photographers that had huddled round him!

This camera is now up for auction on eBay, the starting price was just $500, but bids have now exceeded more than $7,000. The proceeds of the sale will go to charity.

Bolt had just won another gold medal, after winning the 200m race when he took the Nikon D4 camera and began taking a series of pictures that were beamed around the entire world. It was a historic moment, as Bolt became the first athlete to retain the 100m and 200m Olympic Gold’s. Continue Reading

Why Olympic Athletes Just Keep On Breaking World Records

Why Olympic Athletes Just Keep On Breaking World Records

At this year’s Olympic Games in London numerous world records have been broken. Just when you think people have reached the limits of speed, strength, stamina and skill someone will come along and blast your expectations out of the skies.

Some theorists argue that people are approaching the limit of what can be athletically achieved and you can see their point, I mean you can’t physically expect a man to able to run the 100 meters in much less time than the 9.58 seconds set by Usain Bolt, not unless runners are suddenly allowed to attach jet packs to their backs anyway! Mom, Why Do All The Olympic Athletes Have Fluorescent Green Trainers?

Mom, Why Do All The Olympic Athletes Have Fluorescent Green Trainers?

The other day I was sat in my local pub, half-watching the Olympics on the big screen, a young child and his mother walked slowly past our table, the young boy’s neck was craned awkwardly as he tried to see up at the wall-mounted plasma screen. “Mom,” he said inquisitively, “Why are all the running peoples wearing bright green trainers?”

I didn’t hear what the mother responded to her child, as they had moved out of earshot by the time she formulated her response, but it made me wonder, I looked up at the screen again, and saw that in the race that was about to begin, every single athletes taking part was wearing luminous green running shoes. The Sci-Fi Techniques That Olympic Athletes Are Trying To Improve Performance

The Sci Fi Techniques That Olympic Athletes Are Trying To Improve Performance

For competitive athletes just improving performance by a second can mean the difference between Gold and Silver at a coveted event like the Olympic Games. These days, advancements in modern technology have seen our professionals resort to some very strange training techniques indeed, techniques that seem more like they belong in a science fiction movie than in a gym.

One such method that is said to improve performance is a cryotherapy chamber. Don’t be misled by the name, it is not a place where athletes go to talk about their feelings and cry-it-out in the faint hope that being emotionally balanced will give them that all important edge in a competition, but rather a freezing cold chamber that is -220 Fahrenheit.
